Montrose Players in the Limelight

The fall performing arts season is highlighted by a high energy production of Newsies Jr., the hilarious play Clue! and new tech investments.
The Middle School Players wowed audiences with two shows of Newsies Jr. Spectacular ensemble numbers like "Seize the Day," "Carrying the Banner" and "King of New York" stood out for their outstanding choreography. A large and talented cast directed by Abby Rios and choreographed by Marcie Arena showcased their acting, singing, dancing and even gymnastics skills.

An exciting development for both performers and audiences this fall was new stage lights. "Attendees at the June 2022 Montrose Auction raised their paddles to support both the arts and athletics. As a result, the school invested in a new van that our teams can use for travel, and in these wonderful new stage lights to showcase our performers," said Assistant Director of Development Magdalena Horsburgh. The improved lighting allowed the expanded tech team and crew to ensure visibility of the characters, establish the setting and set the mood on stage.

Earlier in the fall, audiences were entertained with the Upper School Players' performance of the play Clue!, a murder mystery featuring fast paced dialogue and comedic timing. Margaret Juge directed the sensational story. Lucy DeMeo '24, who played Wadsworth the butler, also credited the expanded tech team with the show's success. "The show would be nothing without its crew, led by [new Technical Director Angeli] Fernandes, who have gone all-out," Lucy wrote in The Looking Glass. "Step foot in the A&A, and you’ll see the elaborate set they’ve created to mirror the board game." Lucy also noted that the costumes, designed by Bakhita Wanner '12, were historically-based and color-coded.

The expanded Performing Arts team will next turn to the production of the All School Musical, The Sound of Music. A record 70 students auditioned for the show. Director Mrs. Juge, Musical Director Mrs. Rios and the expended technical team are sure to produce an outstanding show on March 17 and 18, 2023. Don't miss it!
